Healthcare

In healthcare, accuracy is safety.

A misunderstood word in a medical room is not a small thing. Your Deaf and hard of hearing patients deserve to understand, and be understood, completely.

Healthcare

Lagundo ASL Services provides American Sign Language interpreting for hospitals, clinics, private practices, telehealth, and behavioral health across Las Vegas and Nevada. Under the ADA, healthcare providers are responsible for effective communication with Deaf and hard of hearing patients, at no cost to the patient. We bring qualified interpreters, and Deaf interpreters when the moment calls for one, to the settings where getting it exactly right matters most.

Why LAS

Why healthcare teams trust LAS.

Deaf-led, patient-first.

Led by a Deaf co-founder, we approach a clinical room from the Deaf patient's side, so access is built around care, clarity, and respect, never bolted on.

Accuracy where it counts.

Diagnoses, consent, medication, and instructions have to land accurately and completely, with meaning and clinical context intact. We staff qualified interpreters to the setting, and a Deaf interpreter when linguistic complexity warrants one.

Confidential, always.

Our interpreters are bound by professional confidentiality. What is shared is treated with discretion on a need-to-know basis, held to the NAD-RID Code of Professional Conduct.

On-site or VRI, matched to the need.

For high-stakes care we recommend the approach that fits the setting and the patient's communication needs, whether on-site interpreting or VRI, held to the same standard.

What We Cover

Across every point of care.

Hospital admissions, appointments, and procedures. Primary care, specialists, and dental. Telehealth visits. Physical therapy and rehabilitation. Behavioral and mental health, where a Deaf interpreter may be appropriate depending on the person's language and communication needs. Patient education, discharge instructions, and family conversations. Wherever care happens, access belongs there too, at no cost to your patient.

Common Questions

Healthcare access, answered.

Who pays for a medical interpreter?

Under the ADA, the healthcare provider is responsible for providing effective communication, such as a qualified interpreter, at no cost to the Deaf or hard of hearing patient. The cost is never passed to the patient. This is general guidance, not legal advice.

Can a family member interpret instead?

Generally, the provider should arrange appropriate communication access rather than rely on family. Under the ADA, an accompanying adult may be used only in limited circumstances, and a minor child only in an emergency when no qualified interpreter is available. A qualified professional interpreter protects accuracy, confidentiality, and the patient's dignity, and that is the access we provide. This is general guidance, not legal advice.

Do you offer VRI for healthcare?

Yes. We provide both on-site interpreting and video remote interpreting (VRI), and we recommend the approach that fits the setting and the patient's communication needs, held to the same standard. When a fast bridge is needed, VRI can be arranged quickly.

Reliability

Settled before you arrive.

For booked events, we confirm the team, timing, logistics, and sightlines in advance so the access plan is clear before the event begins.

On-site or VRI, based on what works.

We recommend on-site interpreting, VRI, or a combination based on the setting, communication needs, technology, and what will provide effective communication.
